George Savvides has over 17 years corporate leadership experience in the healthcare industry and is currently Executive Member of the Australian Health Insurance Association (AHIA); Non-Executive Director, World Vision Australia and World Vision International; Member Advisory Committee, Genepharm Ltd; and Councillor, International Federation of Health Plans.

Mr Savvides was formerly Managing Director of Healthpoint Technologies Ltd, Managing Director and CEO, Sigma Co Ltd; Managing Director, Smith+Nephew Pty Ltd, Australasia; General Manager, CIG Healthcare Australia; Chairman, Medicines Partnerships of Australia; and Member, CSIRO Health Sector Advisory Council.
Q. Won’t health policy ultimately be dictated by the country’s ability or willingness to pay?

A.
To me, the real question is ‘how much more value can Australia's health consumers get for each dollar spent?’ The ACHR believes that much greater efficiencies can be extracted from the system for the benefit of all. It doesn’t necessarily mean spending more money, we just need to ensure we're spending it in the right ways. For instance, a dollar spent on prevention may ultimately save $100 in treatment. These are the issues we need to address.
