| FAQs |
| There are already so many groups within the health sector,
aren’t you just creating another one? |
| It is true that there is no shortage of groups which already hold strong views about health services and the system that delivers them, but many have special interests that may restrict their ability to contribute to a wider agenda. To date, there is no single group able to take a representative view of the many and varied elements that comprise public and private sector health in Australia. It is within this context the ACHR has been established. |
Will the ACHR publish its research findings to the public? |
| The first stated purpose of the Centre is to initiate and promote intelligent, inclusive public discussion among all stakeholders on important health issues in Australia. To that end, all of our published research reports and papers will be available online for public consumption. |
What sort of research will the ACHR undertake? |
| Our initial list of issues that need to be addressed and
resolved in the national interest is a long one. The list, which is by no means complete, covers the following topics: financial sustainability and the effectiveness of current approaches to healthcare delivery; ensuring quality, cost effective outcomes in healthcare; public versus private healthcare; prevention versus cure; primary healthcare; roles and training within the health workforce; and community understanding and education in health. How can I get involved in the ACHR? |
| If you are interested in nominating yourself or someone else to the Research Projects Committee or the Advisory Council of the ACHR, please email nbatt@achr.com.au |
How representative is the ACHR of all the industry groups? |
| It is generally representative and the aim for the Centre is to be subject to the widest possible influences – whether they have their genesis within the public or private sector. The Centre looks forward to building and broadening its membership as it moves ahead. |
Is the ACHR independent of Australian Unity? |
| Yes. Australian Unity provided the initial funding for the Centre and other operational support, but over time Australian Unity will become just one of many contributing organisations. There is significant upside to having an organisation that is influenced by entities and individuals who hold broad views about the nation’s health system. |
When will the first research project be commissioned? |
| Research has already been commissioned. |
Does the ACHR have government support? |
| The ACHR has been encouraged enthusiastically by government, and it is highly supportive of the Centre’s activities |
What does the ACHR intend to do with research findings? |
| Firstly, using the expertise of our board and research project committee, we will test the outcomes in various ways – we need to ensure the results are robust. Once that is done, we will ensure the information reaches all those health industry stakeholders who will benefit from that information leading, we hope, to public discussion and, eventually, to significant action that will result in a better, more efficient health system in Australia. |
